4.1-Meaning of Data Collection

-Data is the values collected through record-keeping or polling, observing or measuring.

-Data is facts, texts or numbers that can be collected.

-Data may be in the form of transcripts of interviews, maps, photographs and videotapes of social interaction.

-The process of gathering and analysing accurate data from various sources to find answer to research problems, trends and probabilities etc. to evaluate possible outcomes is known as Data Collection.

-Information is the processed data. It refers to a body of facts in a format that facilities decisions making or that defines relationship between pieces of data.

4.2-Importance of Data Collection

-Data helps to make better decisions.

-Data helps to identify problems.

-Data will backup arguments.

-Data makes approach strategic.

-Data saves time.

-Data speaks how the things are going.

-Data improves quality of life.

4.3-Types of Data

1.) Subjective Data

-Qualitative data are subjective data.

-Subjective data can’t be measured.

-Typically consider less accurate.

2.) Objective Data

-Quantitative data are objective data.

-Objective data can be measured.

-Generally consider more accurate and prioritized.

3.) Quantitative Data

-Quantitative data refers to any information that can be quantified, counted or measured and given a numerical value.

4.) Qualitative Data

-Qualitative data is descriptive in nature, expressed in terms of language rather than numerical value.

5.) Primary Data

-Primary data is original data gather by the researcher for the research project at hand.

6.) Secondary Data

-Secondary data is defined as data collected earlier for a purpose other than the current being pursed.

-Secondary data is often in the form of raw data and published material.

4.4-Sources of Data Collection

a. Primary sources

b. Secondary sources

- Internal sources
